“As a public agency, transparency is important to us. We got involved in CDP supply chain because helps us to give context to the info that’s available to the public. We have very ambitious goals in Los Angeles and California, as a major contributor to the city’s GHG emissions...like Las Vegas we’ve had to deal with major droughts, so water consumption is a huge issue for us. We’ve added a million people to our city since the ‘70s but have reduced our water consumption to that level.”

–Nancy Sutley, Chief Sustainability Officer at the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power

Agenda

*Sessions and times are subject to change. The 2022 CDP Global Supply Chain Summit is an in-person only event

Monday, October 24: EVENT SCHEDULE

9:00 am

Rise & shine: Registration + networking

10:00 am

Creating the future we need: Opening remarks

Paul Dickinson, CDP’s Executive Chair, will deliver opening remarks and share his vision of the future we need addressing how CDP will continue to leverage its global disclosure mechanism to propel transformative action.

Keynote speaker: Paul Dickinson, Founder & Executive Chair (CDP)

10:15 am

Securing nature in the supply chain: Strengthening net-zero with nature positive

The effects of climate change are intimately tied to and reinforce a similar crisis in nature. Therefore, climate and nature are two sides of the same coin – we need to equally strive to both halve emissions and become nature positive by 2030. This requires a holistic environmental approach from corporates whose impacts lie across multiple dimensions – be it climate, water security, forests and/or biodiversity. This panel will focus on why it’s so important to approach these challenges in conjunction, and which practical steps supply chains can take in this direction.

Moderator: Dexter Galvin, Global Director, Corporates & Supply Chains (CDP)

Panelists: Emily Kreps, Head of ESG Americas (Deutsche Bank), James Riddle, Sustainability Program Manager (HP Inc.)

11:00 am

Recharge: Coffee & tea

11:30 am

Building environment into purchasing processes

Successful supplier engagement is a critical part of cascading climate action, reducing scope 3 emissions, and achieving science-based targets. These outcomes are best achieved through responsible sourcing policies and leveraging the relationship between vendor managers and suppliers. This workshop will include integration of CDP data into procurement processes, achieving buy-in from procurement teams, and best practices for scaling ambition and action in sustainable procurement.

Moderator: Julia Silberman, Director, Corporate Engagement (CDP)

Panelists: Faiza Haq, Manager Environmental Sustainability, (Mastercard), Valerian Pfrimmer, Director of Global Procurement, (Schlumberger)

1:00 pm

Lunch with friends

2:00 pm

Scaling action by cascading science-based targets (SBTs) and renewables in your supply chain

To achieve transformative change for a sustainable future companies must align their ambition and actions with climate science. Science-based targets provide a clear roadmap for the right level of ambition with required steps to keep global warming below 1.5°C. Cascading the uptake of science-based targets through the value chain is critical to ramp up ambition at scale. But how do we get from ambition to action? Using renewable energy data, collaborating with your suppliers on renewable energy projects, and leveraging global initiatives is key to achieving SBTs. Join us to hear from CDP, the Clean Energy Buyers Institute (CEBA), NTT Data Corporation, and the LADWP on how their organizations work to solve the environmental crisis with the power of supply chains.

Moderator: Laura Hohmann, Associate Director Supply Chain North America (CDP)

Panelists: Mark Porter, Vice President Transaction Acceleration Group (CEBA), Toru Shimogaki, Head of Green Innovation Office (NTT DATA Corporation), Nancy Sutley, Chief Sustainability Officer (Los Angeles Department of Water and Power)

2:00 pm

Transition planning - Building infrastructure to achieve net zero

Since the SBTi released the Net-Zero Standard in October 2021, more than 900 companies have committed to setting a science-based net-zero target. How are they planning on reducing emissions by at least 90% by 2050 with the vast majority lying in a company’s Scope 3 footprint? Transition plans are a vital tool to demonstrate to investors and stakeholders that an organization is committed to achieving a 1.5-degree pathway, and that its business model will remain relevant (i.e., profitable) in a net-zero carbon economy. A climate transition plan is a time-bound action plan that clearly outlines how an organization will pivot its existing assets, operations, and entire business model towards a trajectory that aligns with the latest and most ambitious climate science recommendations. i.e., halving greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2030 and reaching net-zero by 2050 at the latest, thereby limiting global warming to 1.5°C. Transition-focused metrics are a key lever in CDP’s disclosure system. Learn how to use transition-focused metrics for assessing your suppliers and their progress towards a 1.5-degree pathway.

Moderator: Simon Fischweicher, Head of Corporations & Supply Chain (CDP)

Panelists: Nelson Román, Senior Strategic Sourcing Specialist (National Grid), Donavan Hornsby, Chief Strategy Market Officer (Benchmark Digital)

2:45 pm

Recharge: Coffee & tea

3:00 pm

Build your Scope 3 inventory - From primary data to LCA

This session will discuss how CDP primary data can be leveraged to create a scope 3 inventory and which suppliers’ emissions data should be included in your organizations’ own upstream emissions inventory. CDP’s gold sponsor and trusted partner Boston Consulting Group will speak to the growing importance of including product-level Lifecycle Assessment Data in your assessment and introduce the CO2 AI Product Ecosystem. The CO2 AI Product Ecosystem —developed by CDP and CO2 AI by BCG —is an AI-enabled platform that allows all members of a company’s ecosystem to exchange product-level data, empowering organizations to compute their own carbon footprint.

Moderator: Dexter Galvin, Global Director Corporates & Supply Chain (CDP)

Panelists: Mike Lyons, Managing Director & Partner (Boston Consulting Group), Kirsten Banks, Unit General Manager (PepsiCo), Solange T Vazquez, Director, US Head of C&R Working Capital Origination (HSCB)

3:00 pm

Roundtable for water security

The water crisis and the climate crisis go hand in hand. To ensure supply chain resiliency, businesses must not only work on reducing emissions but also work together to safeguard water security. However, water challenges are often localized and require an in-depth understanding of regional impacts. Meet with Supply Chain members who engage their suppliers on water-related issues and join a discussion on supplier engagement, water-related metrics, and best practices in supply chain water management. Panelists, CDP experts, and the audience will engage in a conversation on understanding and acting upon the importance of water-related issues in the supply chain, educating and collaborating with suppliers on water-related issues, and using data to effectively cascade action on water security within the supply chain.

Moderator: James Chamberlayne, Senior Manager Supply Chain UK&WW (CDP)

Speakers: Ryan Spicer, Director, Environmental Impact (Keurig Dr Pepper)

3:45 pm

Buyer & supplier - A conversation

In this modern age, procurement means more than just finding the best price. B2B relationships now hold the potential for meaningful collaboration as we face the shared challenges of combating climate change, water insecurity and deforestation. Every step along the purchasing pathway is an opportunity to make a difference, but this is a 2-way street between you and your vendors. Join this engaging conversation on elevating procurement towards partnerships for a sustainable world.

Moderator: Julia Silberman, Director Corporate Engagement (CDP)

Speakers: Nelson Román, Senior Strategic Sourcing Specialist (National Grid), Doug Dietrich, Sustainability Manager (Burns & McDonnell)

3:45 pm

Protecting forests through effective use of KPIs

Forests maturity analysis of suppliers has always been challenging for companies. In response to these challenges, the CDP Forests team has outlined 15 KPIs within the Forests Questionnaire in-line with the Accountability Framework initiative to guide companies on their journey towards establishing deforestation-free supply chains.  CDP will present a data analysis framework building from supplier disclosure data that can be used by current Supply Chain Forest Members to understand supplier performance against the 15 KPIs across all regions and commodities, thereby demonstrating the value of disclosing to CDP in addressing deforestation through the Supply Chain Program. The forum will offer an opportunity to display the analysis framework and for Supply Chain Members to offer direct feedback to align potential CDP Forest data outputs with the needs and desires of Supply Chain Members.

Presenter: Fernanda Colletti, Engagement Manager Supply Chain (CDP)
